Tradesman's Liability Insurance
Introduction
Business insurance designed for sole traders, limited companies and partnerships in manual occupations such as plumbers, builders, electricians, gardeners and hairdressers.
Cover starts with public liability and products liability insurance, and can be extended to include employers liability, tools and equipment cover.

Usual cover can include:
- Tools and stock
- Treatment risk - for hairdressers and beauticians, to cover your legal liabilities
- Asset protection
- Business equipment and contractor's tools
- Contract works - cover against loss or damage to temporary or permanent works completed, or due to be completed on a contract site. This also includes cover for any plant, scaffolding, site huts or temporary buildings that are owned or hired by you
- Personal accident - cover is usually for all employees of the business and proprietor and partners under the age of 75. This cover is not restricted to work activities and includes injuries sustained in your or your employees' own time
- Business travel - this policy option provides you and your employees with essential cover whilst travelling on company business within the UK, Europe and worldwide. Cover would include medical fees, cancellation costs, personal baggage and money cover
- Business interruption - this covers loss of income and increased cost of working cover, for additional expenses incurred, to enable you to carry on trading
Tradesman's liability policies
Many insurers now offer policies designed to meet the specific needs of businesses in a wide variety of trades, ranging from construction to administration to services.
Each gives the core employers liability and public liability cover required, together with a range of additional covers which do vary from insurer to insurer.
Public & products liability insurance
Public liability insurance covers your legal liability for accidental injury to the public or accidental damage to material property not owned by you.
Products liability insurance covers accidental injury to the public or accidental damage caused by products supplied by your business.
Employer's liability insurance
Required by law if you have employees, this type of insurance protects you from claims from staff who have been injured or made ill at work through the fault of your business.
Tools and equipment
Covers hand tools and hand held portable power tools or their parts.
